How to apply if you reside outside of the CSD boundaries :

Records & Reporting

Parent submits a Extension School application

An Extension School teacher will contact the family to conduct an interview.

The teacher submits the application and interview documentation to the superintendent for review.

The district will make a decision to approve or deny enrollment within 2 weeks of receiving the application documents.

An Extension School teacher will notify parents of the district's decision.

Enrollment Procedures:

Who may enroll? Any Alaskan of school age who does not have a high school diploma or GED certificate may apply to enroll. CSD accepts enrollment from students who are 5-years old by September 1st and under 22 years of age prior to the beginning of the school year. Additionally, students who are 4-years old by September 1st qualify for enrollment at a reduced allotment rate for core courses. (Although the district receives no funding for Pre-K students, we recognize the benefit of an early start.)

Cost of Enrollment - CSD is a public school district, and therefore, there is no cost to enroll.

Enrollment Period - Students continuing their education with CSD who have exhibited adequate progress receive priority enrollment status for the following school year. New families may begin enrolling for the next school year as early as March 1st. Enrollment continues until the end of October or until capacity is reached.

Enrollment Status

Chugach

Full-time Enrollment - Students who enroll with CSD on a full-time basis are considered to be full-time students and will receive a full funding allotment. In accordance with 4 AAC 33.426: A student enrolled in a statewide correspondence program, whether full-time or part-time, must take at least 50 percent of his/her coursework through the statewide correspondence program, in core courses. A student must be enrolled in at least 4 courses to be considered full-time.

* Core classes are defined as Foreign Language, Math, Language Arts, science, Social Studies, and technology (4 AAC 33.426)

Part-time Enrollment - Students may elect to enroll concurrently with CSD and another public school or private school for part time enrollment. In this instance, the funding allotment from CSD will be reduced based on the percentage of time the student is enrolled in another school.

Private School Enrollment - CSD will support a family's desire to choose some classes for the child from a private school. Full or part time enrollment will be determined by the number of classes the student is enrolled in.

Families are encouraged to discuss all enrollment options with their advisory teacher. Please note that by enrolling dually with CSD and another school your allotment will be reduced based on hours or credits attended at the other school.

Traveling & Out of State Students - Students who may need to leave the state for an extended period of time less than one year in duration are considered a traveling student. Traveling students must notify their advisory teacher of their plans, retain a permanent Alaska address and contact name, and abide by all participation requirements and expectations. Families living or traveling outside the state temporarily may remain enrolled with CSD for only one additional year, providing that you have lived in the state in the year prior to travel.

Re-enrollment/Withdrawal - To be eligible for re-enrollment for the next school year, students must be making good progress in their content areas as determined by the Advisory Teacher. Families may be withdrawn by CSD at any time during the year based on any one of the following situations:

Extended period of noncompliance to CSD requirements; or

Lack of response to multiple contact attempts by CSD staff; or

Failure to turn-in required paperwork; or

Failure to participate in State-mandated or district assessments; or

Failure to implement district recommended strategies to assist students in preparing for State-mandated assessments who lack progress in Basic Skill areas on the State assessments or Chugach Levels; or

Failure to abide by any of the policies or procedures set forth in the CSD Home Extension School Handbook.

Student Records and Reporting

Student records - Each student has a permanent file that contains a student's progress report, test scores, and the like. One copy of the permanent file is kept in the Extension office and a second copy is kept in the District Office in Anchorage. Copies of the permanent record are sent to another school if you change districts.

Quarterly reports - In accordance with state regulations, students enrolled in the Extension School must submit quarterly work samples demonstrating student progress in language arts and math.

Monthly contact - In accordance with state regulations, your advisory teacher will contact parents/students on at least one occasion every month and document this monthly communication with parents/students. Communication may consist of electronic mail, letters. Phone calls, family gatherings, home or office visits, etc.

Graduation - CSD assesses student progress according to developmental levels in each of the 10 content areas. A student wishing to earn a high school diploma from CSD must demonstrate proficiency in all content areas and also have passed all four sections of the Alaska High School Graduation Qualifying Exam. (HSGQE) The graduation levels for each student are indicated on the developmental report card. Students can earn additional credit for courses that go beyond the graduation level. (Similar to advanced placement)
