Responsibilities and Rights of the Student/Parent

Parents

State and local regulations - Extension school students are subject to all state and local regulations that apply to public school students.

Participation in mandated testing* - In accordance with 4 AAC 06.710-790, every student is required to participate in all district and state-mandated testing and assessments. (Parents are required to sign the Acknowledgement of Testing & Assessment Requirements form prior to enrollment with CSD.)
(*This includes, but may not be limited to, SBA grades 3-10 TerraNova CAT6 (grades 5-7) Alaska High School Graduation Qualifying Exam (grade 10))

Level assessments - In order to advance on CSD's report card, designated assessments must be completed with a minimum proficient score. Assessments need to be sent to the advisory teacher before the end of the fourth quarter to be recorded in that year's permanent record.

Materials - Families are responsible for materials checked-out to them. All non-consumable materials purchased with district funds are property of CSD and must be returned to the Extension School office upon withdrawal unless the family chooses to purchase these materials at a depreciated rate upon the approval of the advisory teacher.

Forms - Upon enrollment, students are required to complete and submit the CSD enrollment packet.

Individual Learning Plans (ILP) - At the beginning of each school year students, parents, and the advisory teacher work together to develop an ILP. The plan is evaluated throughout the year and updated at least annually.

Parent involvement - In order to assure a meaningful education, at least one parent or adult must take an active role in overseeing the educational program of the student. In situations where this is not possible, the advisory teacher may work with the student on an individual basis to create an appropriate educational program that meets his/her unique needs.

Right to appeal - Students/parents enrolled in the CSD Extension School program have the same right to access and utilize the district appeal process as students/parents in other CSD schools/programs.
