Charlene Arneson – President -

Charlene and her family; husband Arlen Arneson and their 3 sons Dale, Aaron, Bretton, moved to Whittier, Alaska in 1964. This was their fist Alaskan home. In 1964, the Whittier school was only one room and she worked closely with the teachers as a volunteer in the classroom. It was a wonderful time for her!
She feels fortunate to have been able to fulfill the duties and responsibilities as a board member for the past seven years, a privilege that she has greatly enjoyed. In November 2008, she was elected to the board of directors of the Association of Alaska School Boards (AASB) at their annual conference. She has participated in many AASB conferences, academies and legislative fly-ins.
Her goal is to promote CSD Shared Purpose, to help students achieve success through educational programs such as the Voyage to Excellence (VTE). She is not only dedicated to the CSD students, but all students statewide. Advocating for children’s education, to make sure that the student achieve their full potential, and have the skills to be able to sustain their life’s goals and succeed, are some of Charlene’s greatest strengths!

Thelma Vlasoff – Vice President -

Thelma has lived most of her life in Tatitlek, Alaska, and is a Community Health Aide there. Thelma has served on the CSD Board of Directors since October 2004.
Thelma would like to help encourage students get their high school diploma and to know how important it is to finish school. She is proud of the way that the superintendent, staff and teachers help each child so that they achieve their goals.

Terry came to Whittier in February 1986. At that time her daughter; Brandelyn was just eleven months old. Brandelyn is one the few students to have gone to the Whittier Community School from K-12th grade.
Her mother, Virginia served on the CSD school board for fifteen years. When her mother was ready to retire, she asked Terry to run for her seat. She won, and only hopes that the people will feel as good about her, as they did about her mother.
She has worn many hats over the years, from Election Board Chair, librarian for 5 years, ambulance driver, fee agent for the State of Alaska, and held a seat on the Planning and Zoning board for a short time. She currently works for the Whittier Harbor.
