Long Range
Plan/Goals
In the Chugach School District, planning for improvement
activities (including staff development) comes from feedback
given by the stakeholders. Stakeholder feedback has
identified 5 focus areas for improvement: Basic Skills,
Individual Needs of Students, Character Development, School
to Life Transition, and Technology. Each Chugach school
prioritizes these areas based on the needs of the students
and teachers. Staff development activities are then planned
based on their priorities.
30 Days of Staff
Development Training
Another unique characteristic of CSD's staff development
plan is that there is approximately 30 days of staff
development in a year. Often this time is scheduled in the
summer, however, there are staff development days during the
school year as well. This schedule of 30 days was necessary
to transition the staff from a traditional approach to
instruction, assessment and reporting to a comprehensive
standards-based approach.
Performance Pay
Performance-based compensation was implemented to
provide additional incentive for certified staff to go above
and beyond normal performance expectations. Performance
compensation is based upon a teacher's scores on the new CSD
teacher evaluation tool. This comprehensive tool is based
upon current research, Alaska State Teaching Standards,
National Teaching Standards and the Malcolm Baldrige
Criteria of Excellence.
